Red Gold is a tomato processing company based in Orestes, Indiana, with plants also in Elwood, Indiana, and Geneva, Indiana. Red Gold produces canned tomatoes (diced, stewed, etc.) with various flavorings, tomato juice, ketchup, tomato sauces, salsa and other tomato related products. The tomatoes are contract-grown near the plant's canneries, mostly in Indiana, Ohio and surrounding states.

General Laborer (Former Employee) says"Worked here for 3 years. Was continually sexually harrassed and nothing was done about it. When my lead took it from being verbal to putting his hands on me, I walked out. Management only looks out for themselves and employees are treated very unfairly. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. The pay wasn't bad just not enough to put up with management thinking they could do, say, and touch whomever or whatever they wanted."
General Labor (Former Employee) says"Cut-throat working environment. Supervisors assign you to a trainer for the different machines. The problem is the trainers don't want you there and they resent having to train you, so they tell you to "stand over there and don't touch anything." They throw you on nights, refuse to train you and set you up for failure. They know exactly what they are doing and they reinforced this culture daily. So,if you want a hostile environment full of nepotism, cronism and the "Good Ole Boys Club," then is definitely the place for you! Watch your back.... Cons: Hostile environment!!"

Supervisor (Former Employee) says"Red Gold is a terrible company to work. They compensate their employees very poorly with the amount of time and effort they expect. Every year from August through October, they make their employees work 12 hour days, 7 days a week. During this time, the employees will be lucky to get 3 days off. The supervisors end up working 80 - 90 hours a week with no overtime. To top it off, the company is privately owned and the owner is on the production line every day barking out orders. Don't waste your time with this company! Cons: vacation, pay, benefits, work environment, could go on forever!"
Operator (Former Employee) says"The plants equipped with machines older than most of their workers that are not properly maintained or used correctly. There is a lot of favoritism and gossip. They are more worried about a union coming in than holding employees accountable. Management doesn't back their Supervisors and allows managers to date employees. The management feeds into the drama and gossip mill. They work you an insane amount of hours and dont understand some of their employees have a life outside of work. If you dont conform the the Red Gold way you are seen as a threat and fired. Most of the employees are highly paid button pushers and cant solve any issues. Drama and tension on the floor is always high. Hr says they will look into stuff and never do. The owners seem to be oblivious on what is really going on with the company at the employee level. Cons: Management, Supervisor, work life balance, out dated equipment"
Packaging (Former Employee) says"Anyone worth anything quit or found something else. The management there was horrible on 2nd shift.. Favoritism ran rampant.. The few line leads that were decent on that shift were controlled or limited by a very obnoxious supervisor. When a company considers firing you because you call off to be at your sick child's side in ICU they're not worth working for. Even the HR dept was childish, rude, and petty. By far the worst employer I've ever had. Cons: Everything else"
Fork Lift Operator (Former Employee) says"Not a very pleasant atmosphere for employees. Quantity is first quality is last. Each year the moral of employees decreased and the turn over rate became much greater."
Forklift Operator (Former Employee) says"It's a very good place to work if you kiss your bosses behind the whole time. If you do not they will look for reasons to get rid of you or make your job harder than it needs to be. They do not listen to ideas from the non management employees, so no matter how great your idea is it will go in 1 ear and out the other with them. They micro manage every little thing you do and no matter how good your numbers are in their system they always say you can do better even if you are 30-50% above what they want you to do. They say the are a family business just because they are owned by a family, but they do not treat you as family."
Seamer Mechanic (Former Employee) says"The 8 months I worked there I only recieved on average 2-3 lunch breaks per week. That is on a 7 day work schedule too. An employee is supposed to receive 3 breaks total, I would only average 1-2 and sometimes NONE. Production gets there breaks but Maintenance gets cheated out of theres on 3rd. Shift. I was terminated the day after I had given my notice too, Supervisor responded by saying it is company policy to immediately terminate after notice if the person calls in. They went as far as holding a shift meeting that day to announce it to maintenance the day of after the fact, very shady. They do not care about anyone but making themselves look good in management. There is NO financial growth, very little. The evaluation is a joke, they will do them in ways so you will be passed for a raise unless you kiss-up to management. Very poor culture, alll talk fromvpeople out for themselves at your expense. Cons: NO lunch breaks, no breaks many times, 6-7 workday weeks, poor financial growth, made-up policies, poor culture, poor training, poor attitudes, many hazards throughout work areas."
Maintenance Technician (Current Employee) says"A typical day starts out with waiting on assignments from the shift Supervisor. Once we receive our assignments we head out to our locations for the day conducting PM's and repairs as needed. Management is ok but seems to be more supervisors than needed which creates confusion when making decisions on what needs to be done. My co-workers are ok to work with as they have many years of experience. The hardest part of the job is dealing with the long hours instead of spending time with my family and going to school."
Operator (Former Employee) says"Aside from the job which was boring, a few people just had bad attitudes. Other operators wanted to be the boss, and constantly sucked up to the supervisors. You couldn`t talk to a supervisor without someone listening in. It`s a terrible place to work when you have operators yelling and cussing at you on the floor. Plant Accountant (Former Employee) says"The corporate culture is dog eat dog and everyone is out to get their piece of the pie. It is hard to work with other departments and Red Gold does not foster an environment of unity within the company. Pay is sub-par although the benefits package is good. It is basically mandatory that you attend outside of work, work events as it shows up in your review. The Pack Season (harvest) is brutal and there is no financial incentive for salaried employees who work the weekends during this time. Heaven forbid you have a faith based objection to working on Sundays because you'll most definitely be working on Sunday. Don't take my word for it, ask them how much turnover they have in the plant accountant position. Cons: Work environment, harvest season, working with other departments, base pay"

The assistant controller micro managed to the detriment of the entire finance team. There was a lot of turnover as a result. Red Gold is financially cheap on all office supplies, hardware, software, etc."

The base pay rate for salaried employees was below average for the amount of work required. I was hired for one position and was moved to another position on my first day of work. Career advancement is limited for professionals as the company is family owned and operated. Everyone wants to be the boss., which makes working across departments nearly impossible. Weekends are required during harvest (which is down played during the interview process) and management is unwilling to be flexible with work/life schedules. Extracurriculars are essentially required for employees as it part of your annual review."

They are very slow to engage in new projects that vary from their historic comfort zone of operation. Worker safety is always touted as highly important, but the facts are only if it is basically free and does not interfere with production goals. This is not knock against CEO Reichart, but rather his underlings that often hide info from him."
